Character is the greatest quality a man may possess. It has been rightly saying: “If wealth is lost, nothing is lost; if health is lost, something is lost; but if a character is lost, everything is lost.”
Character depends upon training. If a person receives good training, he can cultivate good character. Training starts from the cradle and ends in the grave. It is thus life-long progress.
Character means virtuous habits and qualities. It includes truth, honesty, non-violence, respect for others, and such other qualities. A man of character never acts in a mean way. He is not selfish. In fact, a person of character lives for others.
A man of character is respected everywhere. He shapes society. He builds a nation. He is a source of strength to others. He is never frightened of dangers and threats. He faces the odds of life in a bold way. He makes his own path in life. He shows a way to others. He sets an example for others to follow.
All great persons have been men of character. They have found a place in. history because of their character. We admire great men because of certain qualities of their character.
Surroundings and circumstances also mould character. Only weak persons are moulded by the surroundings and circumstances. But, great men fight against all odds. They face the circumstances. They challenge the surroundings. They mould everything and stick to their guns.
A gentle and noble family also produces good character. Many persons have become great because of encouragement by great characters. It was the mother of Shivaji who was behind his greatness.
A man of character is like a lighthouse. He is a great hero. He is a great source of inspiration for others to follow. We should try to follow great men with a great character if we want to learn a name.
