India is a land of festivals. Every community, religion, place, and season has its own festivals. The Baisakhi festival is associated with the season.
It is celebrated on the thirteenth of April. It is celebrated in Punjab and Haryana. The farmers start harvesting their wheat crop. The farmers feel happy to see the fruit of their labour. As a thanksgiving, they dance and sing at a commonplace. Usually, a fair is held.
It was on this day that Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa Panth. It was, therefore, on this day that the five disciples were baptised. It is thus a sacred day for the Sikhs in particulars and mankind in general. The Guruji showed the Rath of truth and bravery.
The Baisakhi day is considered auspicious by the Hindus also in northern India. The traders start a new year on this day. They take bath in flowing water. So, a fair is usually held by the side of a canal or a river.
