The Dussehra is an important festival of the Hindus. It generally falls during the month of October. Ram killed Ravan on this day. This festival lasts for ten days. The Ramayana is staged every night. The people enjoy seeing Ram-Lila.

All the shops are decorated. The people buy sweets and crackers. People buy clothes and sweets on this day. Jhankis are taken out every day. The Dussehra fair attracts a huge crowd. The effigies of Ravan, Meghnath, and Kumbhakaran are burnt. It marks the victory of good over evil. The people look cheerful on this day.

The Dussehra is celebrated in memory of Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. It signifies the victory of good over evil. It is, however, celebrated in different ways in different parts of India. In Northern India, celebrations continue for ten days. The story of Lord Rama is staged in the form of Ram Lila. The procession is taken out to celebrate the marriage of Rama and Sita. All the route is highly decorated. On the tenth day, a grand fair is held in the open ground. The three big effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana, and Meghnath are set. Crackers are put inside them. Rama shoots arrows and the crackers explode. People watch the burning of the effigies with wonder.

Ram defeated Ravan and brought back Sita.

Dussehra is celebrated as a symbol of victory of goodness over evil. On Dussehra, huge effigies of Ravan, his brother Kumbhkaran and son Meghnath are put up on open grounds. They are then set on fire at sunset with crackers. The people rejoice as the effigies catch fire and burn away.

There is a big fair outside the Ramlila ground. People buy fruits, toys, and crackers from the fair. Everybody enjoys the festival of Dussehra.
