IELTS Speaking Part 2 Cue Card sample topic- Describe a time when you moved to a new house or home

Sample Answer-
It was summer of 2010 when we moved to our own house. Till then we were always in rented houses occasionally moving from one to another for our convenience and affordability. But I felt like reaching a milestone in my life and career when I could afford my own flat from my own resources. I had purchased a flat in a society. I had painstakingly seen it being built brick by brick since it was given to us in an unfinished state. I came at odd hours to shower the freshly cemented walls with water.
Now when it was complete and I moved in with my family, I felt as if I was one of the fortunate ones to own our own house. No budgeting for rent, no agreement renewals and the yearly increase of rent or hassles with the landlord on some issues. I being a green thumb had shifted my plants even before my household goods. The flat looked nice with greenery jutting from its balconies.
My wife and daughter were busy placing the decorative items at right places. Younger daughter had appropriated a smaller bedroom exclusively for herself where she said she would have her study table also. Elder one arranged her books on a bamboo book rack she loved so much. I appropriated a well-ventilated spot in the living room for my yoga sessions and my wife was deliberating where to put her wardrobes and dressing table. We had many new ideas for kitchen and bathrooms.
It was a great feeling to have one’s own roof over one’s head. We felt like kings in our own sweet home.
