A postman is a government servant who delivers letters, parcels, and money orders. He works in a post office. Generally, he wears a ‘Khaki’ uniform. He carries a bundle of letters. He delivers them from door to door. Sometimes he brings happy news and sometimes sad news.
His duty is very hard. He has to perform his duties even in odd weather. In the villages, his work becomes more difficult. But he is always very helpful to the villagers. He reads out letters to them. He is very dutiful and works honestly.

The postman is a useful public servant. Right from morning till evening he is on his duty. He comes to the post office. There he sorts out letters and money orders. He performs this ‘sorting out’ business beat-wise. There is a big table. The postal bags are emptied there. Then the sorting begins. Beats mail is placed in the pigeon holes of an iron almirah. Having finished it, he moves out to his area of duty. He has a leather bag. He puts on a khaki uniform. He has a traditional cap on his head.
Now he goes from door to door and from street to street. His job is very hard. People wait for him very impatiently. He is a well-known figure. His work is hard. His lot is poor. He gets very meager pay. The Government should improve its lot. It should increase his pay so that this useful public servant makes both ends meet quite gracefully. He is also a human being like all of us. has a large family to support like us. This disparity in pay must be removed at once.
Rain or sunshine, he is on his duty. He has no rest. He knows no respite. The life of a village postman is all the more different. He has to go to far-flung areas of the country. The interiors of India are beset with many difficulties. But the postman goes there, too. He cannot refuse to go to hills or plains or deserts. Whatever be the place, how hard be his duty, there goes the postman in his familiar khaki dress on his bike or on foot. It is for the authorities to see what they can do to improve his lot.
