An Indian Juggler Essay
There was a time when jugglers were so common in India, that many foreigners believed that India was a land of jugglers, snake-charmers, and magicians.
Now, the times have changed. These people are going out of fashion. It is mainly because of the availability of other means of entertainment such as the radio, the television, the cinema, chiefly the T.V. with numerous brands and channels.
Still, there are certain people who like the feats of a juggler or a snake-charmer, particularly the former. Sometimes, the two are blended into one when a juggler also undertakes to show the tricks of a snake or shows a cobra dancing to the tunes of his flute.
A typical juggler is poorly dressed. He may be in rags. It is because his earnings are very small.
The juggler bears similarity to a magician also. He shows certain tricks, which like those of a magician exhibit his match-less dexterity. But often he has a monkey and a bear which show tricks for him.
The juggler is able to produce several things from his mouth such as a pigeon, a fish, a frog, a handkerchief, a flower, several balls and marbles, a long ribbon, and so on.
He can make certain things disappear. He places a flower or something else under a piece of cloth and as he removes the cloth, the thing has disappeared.
He makes his little girl dance on a rope. The act is certainly very precarious even if she has a balancing rod in her hand.
It is a pity that people grudge paying even a little money to juggler after enjoying his tricks.
