Sample Answer-

History stands witness to men occupying most of the high-level jobs in several companies. From CEOs of multinational corporations to heads of governments, men have almost always outrun women. Gender equality has been a much-debated topic for many years. It also forms a core component of several organizations’ values. Women officials far outnumbered by their male counterparts is a hard-hitting fact that is well known. While several governments have taken initiatives for reserving a percentage of higher positions for women in an effort to maintain equal job opportunity, I am strictly against this positive bias.

Since time immemorial, women have been primarily associated with taking care of their households in a male dominated society. This has severely affected women’s rights and their causes. Very few women have broken the shackles of their submissive, chauvinist led lives and participated in organizational, socioeconomic and political tasks. Today, everyone is familiar with feminism and the role it has to play in terms of women’s rights. Women are everywhere today, multitasking between their personal and professional lives, aggressively competing with their male peers, some even surpassing the latter. Gone are the days of female foeticide. Women today have access to ample avenues of education and developing expertise and as a result, are driving the winds of change towards achieving their rights. Reservation would only lead to a decrease in productivity and growth of an organization if women who do not have the required talent and experience absorb one of these positions. Reservations would also perpetrate gender inequality. As such, the government should not reserve positions specifically for women. What it can do, however, is to take all possible measures to shun the bias against women, provide access to necessary education and hence empower them for their own growth and development.

Indra Nooyi, CEO of the brand Pepsico did not get to the top of her corporate ladder with reservations. She is also in the Board of Directors of the top Oil and Gas service provider Schlumberger. Her hard work and tenacity to reach the top of the game have inspired millions of women all around the world to follow in her footsteps.

In conclusion, women should be allowed to rightfully compete for top positions in different companies instead of the government or organizations reserving some spots for them and undermining their capabilities. In recent years, there have been more female executives than ever before which also proves that women do not require reservations to speak for their skills.
