Tea is a popular drink in the world. It is very refreshing. It is prepared from the leaves of a plant. In China tea was first grown and used as a drink. Tea plants grow as bushes. They have pretty white flowers. The plant may grow from ten to twelve feet high. But as the leaves are plucked every year the plant cannot be more than four feet high. Tea is grown on high sloping lands in India, China, Japan, and Sri Lanka. In India, Darjeeling and Assam are famous for tea.
In tea gardens, tea leaves and buds are collected and dried. Then they are covered with a damp cloth to make them curl. In the factory, they have dried again and made ready for the market. We buy tea and put it in boiling water, add sugar and milk, and drink. It refreshes and gives us energy for work. Both the rich and the poor love to drink tea.
