There has always been a debate and different views about whether the local history or world history which is more important, primarily as a subject to study for children in schools. As per my opinion history of my own country and world history, both have equal importance from the learning aspect. History is not bound to any particular matter; it can be about science, about people, and about society or war.
Local history is always very important for the school children to study because they have the right to know about their own country, where they have originated from. To know more about the regional and social values which they are carrying forward from their ancestors. They should learn about Major social and economic changes happened there and should learn from the great achievers of their own country. I am an Indian origin, and I can say that India is a country where, there are many geographical regions, many casts, different people but still united and of course a great history of this country always surprises us. Here children should know about Novel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Gandhi Ji and Indian independence movement against British.
World History, on the other side, is very vital part of the studies because of the globalization trend. It embraces people and culture beyond boundaries. It helps students to understand and blend into world culture, know about rising and fall of civilizations and revolutions in a different part of the world, for example, History of World War 2. It creates a wider outlook on lifestyles which helps the children to grow and expand their horizon and they will appreciate this knowledge as a grown-up youth.
In Conclusion, The local and world history both are equally essential and beneficial in children’s education.
