Androcles and The Lion Story in English with Moral

In ancient Rome, there lived a slave. His name was Androcles. Those were the days when Christianity was not the accepted religion. It had its powerful enemies and the Emperor of Rome was one of them. The Emperor banned Christianity in his empire. If anybody was found practicing Christianity he was tortured and punished with death. Androcles was a devout Christian. Emperor’s men came to know about him and came to arrest him. Androcles fled his home and took shelter in the forest. He lived there in a cave.

One day he heard the cries of a lion. The lion was crying in pain, for a big thorn had stuck into its paw. It had cut deep into the flesh. So it was groaning in pain. Androcles took the paw in one hand and very carefully took out the thorn. The lion was very grateful for his kindness.

A few days later Androcles was caught by the Emperor’s men. He was brought back to Rome. They decided to throw him into the cage of a hungry lion. Androcles knew that nobody came out of the lion’s cage alive. The lion would tear him to pieces and eat him up. But when he was thrown into the cage the lion did not tear him up. Instead, it licked him and fawned on him. Androcles realised that it was the lion he once nursed and helped out of its distress. The grateful lion did not forget him.
