Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school.
Today the world has turned into a global market and in order to cope up, knowing just one language won’t be enough. To communicate with the outside world it is crucial to learn a foreign language. In order to succeed in this world learning a foreign language will get give them a head start to flourish on an international level. I strongly support the idea of making foreign languages compulsory in primary school. We will discuss the reason for this statement in this essay in detail.
Firstly, it has been observed that children have an ability to learn faster than adults. So starting off at an early age is the best option to learn it in the more efficient manner. In primary school, children learn to read and write in their native language and later develop it more. This is the best time to introduce a foreign language as they are already learning the basics at this level and will increase their learning and grasping power.
Secondly, as we grow we lose the power to learn new things and do it at a much slower rate. At the primary level, there are no important tasks at hand and the children have less stress and burden on their shoulders which will, in turn, improve their retaining power.
In this technological era, children are already exposed to foreign shows on television and the internet, it would be better if they understand the language and the culture in order to broaden their horizons in the future.
To conclude, communicating and understanding a foreign language is not an additional skill but a necessary skill now. Introducing it at the primary level is the best way to mold the children’s future into success and fit into this world.
