PTE vs IELTS Scoring Model:
IELTS and PTE have a similar test pattern which consists of sections like Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
Pearson Test of English uses a fully automated method for conducting the test. It is found to give a more analytical, objective result without any human interference. Whereas, on the other hand, IELTS is an offline based test conducted by a certified IELTS examiner.
In writing section, PTE is based on general questions including essay writing, summary writing etc. whereas the IELTS question is based on charts, diagrams or graphs and Essay Writing which has to be physically written with a pen on the answer sheet. In PTE Speaking and reading test, the candidate has to speak into a microphone and the speech is processed by the state of the art technology and checks for grammar and speaking style of the candidate. Whereas in IELTS, the candidate has to speak in front of the IELTS expert examiner.
The listening section is quite similar, you have to listen to a speech and fill in the blanks according to that. The major difference between both the tests is in PTE, you have to fill all the answers on the computer and in IELTS you have to write all the answers on paper.
With IELTS a candidate has the ability to move forward and backwards in his/her question paper and perform whatever section they like first. Whereas PTE is fully automated online test conducted on a computer and has no option to go back to a section once submitted.
The PTE Academic score is placed according to (marks) from 10 – 90. In IELTS a 0 – 9 (bands) is used for the manual scoring.
