The National Flag of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on July 22, 1947. It consists of a horizontal tricolour of deep saffron, white and dark green in equal proportion. In the centre of the white band is a wheel in navy blue colour to represent the Charkha. The design of the wheel is that of the wheel which appears on the abacus of Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka. The diameter of the wheel approximates the width of the white band. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is 2:3. National Flag Essay in 150 words

‘Tiranga’ is the national flag of India. It is not a mere piece of cloth with white, saffron and green colours. It is our life-breath. It is the be-all and end-all of our life.

As we were in the thick of the freedom movement, we adopted Tiranga. We upheld it at a great sacrifice. We wanted to pull down the Union Jack of the English. We suffered for it.

Many Indians died for it gladly. They loved it more than their own lives. It was the symbol of their honour. It was the sign of the honour of theirs motherland. It was the sign of the honour of their motherland. It gave us great inspiration. It enthused courage and fortitude. We increased the pace of the great struggle. We pledged to drive out the English whatever might be cost. It was our National Flag that kept the torch of liberty lit. We did not allow it to get extinguished. It is fluttering high ever since we became free.

Essay on National Flag in 200 words

Every free country has a flag of its own. It is the symbol of independence, unity and honour. Any dishonour to the National Flag is considered a dishonour to the nation. The people can sacrifice even their lives for the honour of their National Flag.

India is a free country. So we have our National Flag. It is a tri-colour. The upper part of this flag is saffron, which means selflessness and sacrifice. The middle part is white. It means truth and purity. The bottom part is green and it means freshness and vigour. On the white, in the middle, there is a wheel. It represents the `Dharma Chakra’ of Ashoke, the pious king. It is taken from the Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath. It means progress. Thus our National Flag is based on four ideals: selfless devotion and sacrifice, truth and purity, vigour and progress. We all pay honour to this Flag on Independence Day and on occasions of national pride. While unfurling this flag we feel proud to think that we are free and we live in a Free country.
