1. The interaction between nature and nurture influences human development and behavior and is a subject of study in behavioral genetics. Nature is defined in terms of nativism or innatism philosophy according to which individual’s innate qualities such as inheritance, biological background, and genetic material determine human development. Nurture refers to individual experience and learning as the main causes for human knowledge and development.
2. Socialization, despite being steeped in tradition, is not static. Social changes such as the emancipation of women or an individual’s rise to a higher social group can change not only the socialization of the individual but also the shape of society. When a child is developing social skills, he or she must learn a range of social expectations and boundaries that will allow for such change. In children, socialization is particularly important because the child is learning skills that will affect their whole lives.
3. Communism as a theory of government and social reform may be said, in a limited sense, to have begun with the ancient Greek idea of the Golden Age, a concept of a world of communal bliss and harmony without the institution of private property. Plato, in his Republic, outlined a society with communal holding of property; his concept of a hierarchical social system including slavery has by some been called “aristocratic communism.”
