PTE Solved Essay Imitating celebrities in sports and movies good or bad

Academic Sample Essay- Imitating celebrities in sports and movies good or bad?. Give your opinion.

With the advances made in information technology, finding information about a celebrity isn’t a tedious task. Everything is open to the general public. This includes what they eat, how they spend their leisure time, who they hang out with etc. Ours is a millennial generation and it is difficult not be influenced by how our favorite celebs lead their lives. Each of us at one point of our lives has tried to follow in, on their footsteps, whether it was as simple as getting that same pair of sneakers they wore or taking up smoking or drinking just because our favorite celebs were pictured endorsing the same.

People are often seen mirroring a celebrity’s negative antics. They take up drugs, start foul mouthing others, spend thousands on getting that perfect outfit or resort to acts of profanity in public. Most actors and models in movies do not promote a positive body image that leads young girls to have insecurities about the way they look, often leading to anorexia and self-harm. Children as young as 9 years old start smoking to stay up with popular cultural trends. Although these actions may help the child become popular or accepted among his peers, they can often have serious impacts on a child’s psychological and physical health.

On the other side of this spectrum are celebrities who, through their sheer dedication and hard work inspire millions of young people and adults alike to turn their lives around to achieve their dreams. They build character among their followers and encourage them to pursue their passion. Above all, they inspire their fans to just be good human beings which are pivotal in molding their lives.

One example of a positive role model is Keanu Reeves. He had a troubled life that was full of tragic losses of his near and dear ones. Despite it all, he has become a popular household name owing to the plethora of roles he has played in several movies. He is known for his immense generosity, having supported several charities by donating in millions, some even anonymously. This way, he has encouraged several people to give back to the society as and when you can. Lance Armstrong, on the other hand, had lied and cheated his way to the top of the cycling world. He denied taking performance enhancing drugs and ruined the careers of several athletes along the way to protect his own name. Such behavior can teach children that there is nothing wrong with lying and taking the shortcut to success.

Thus, imitating a celebrity can have both positive and negative impacts on an individual. Celebrities technically have the weight of the world on their shoulders and they should be very careful about what image they are portraying. It is also our duty to not get carried away with hero worship.
