PTE Sample Essay- “In a war of ideas, it is people who get killed’: Does a common man suffer from a group’s ideology? Express your opinion, and support the same with reasons and examples.
Every person in the world has his own unique ideologies. We encounter people with different ideas and opinions in our day-to-day lives. This can sometimes be constructive since it opens up different possibilities for doing something. However, more often than not, there is an inherent clash of ideas. History has been a witness to mass paranoia and destruction following a war of ideas. In such a situation, it is often the common man that suffers.
Humans function within groups of people led by governments. It is human nature to be influenced by their views as well as to be influenced by the same. While a group’s ideologies sometimes have positive impacts on a population, often times it leaves negativity and destruction in its wake. How often have we witnessed hate crimes and terror attacks due to the beliefs of certain religious groups? Human beings can be easily manipulated into believing something. Terrorist groups and other unstable organizations brainwash the minds of children into believing in their cause. As tainted as they get, they resort to violence and killing people in cold blood just to prove their beliefs. Sometimes, governments also roll out policies that aren’t favored by the general public. But because these are the people in power, the common man is forced to cooperate. Thus, it is the common man who suffers time and time again.
For instance, clashes among different national groups and governments have also led to wars between nations. The 9/11 terror attack at the World Trade Center and the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai, insurgencies in North East India, Kashmir, Syria etc. have taken away millions of men, women and children. They have left behind families who live in constant fear and suffering.
As is evident, the common man is often washed away with the tide of political and religious agenda. He will continue to do so as long as there are different groups with different ideas. Efforts should be made to find a common ground so that the former does not continue to get crushed.
